The Maine Secretary of State’s office hopes to the newly designed Maine license plates will begin to replace the current plates May 1, 2025, and continue through the summer.
According to WGME CBS-13, the Legislature approved phasing out the current chickadee license plate in 2023. The two new designs are: one similar to the 1901 pine tree flag, the other has blue identification numbers and letter combinations against a white background.

How much is this changeover costing taxpayers? The state anticipates the cost to be just over $7 million.
By the way, if you want to reserve your plate registration number, it will cost $25.
