From the Bath Police Department:

This morning at approximately 7:25am Bath Fire/EMS and Bath Police responded to a report of a traffic crash at the intersection of Congress Ave. and Lincoln St. involving a student on an electric scooter and an adult male driver of a pickup truck. The crash occurred during the morning school commute time. Responding units spoke to the student, driver, and eyewitnesses. They learned that the 13-year-old male student from Bath was riding an electric scooter to school crossing Congress Ave from Lincoln Street in the intersection and struck the left side of a pickup truck that was already in the intersection traveling through it from North St onto Congress Ave. Eyewitnesses said the student did not stop at all at the intersection before crossing. The student was not wearing a helmet but did not appear significantly injured in the crash. He was transported to the hospital for precautionary reasons by Bath Rescue. This crash highlights the importance of obeying the rules of the road when operating a motorized or electric scooter, bicycle, or other mode of transport popular with children. Children under the age of 16 must wear a proper helmet and obey traffic control devices like any other motorist. Parents need to ensure their children understand these rules. We are relieved that this crash resulted in no significant injury.
