The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office has arrested a 41-year-old woman on serious charges after she allegedly started a fire in a occupied residence on Bailey Road in Knox.
On Monday, May 4, at approximately 10:43pm, the Waldo County Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a fire at 1647 Bailey Road. Deputies from the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office and members of the Knox Fire Department responded to the scene. Occupants of the home were able to extinguish the fire themselves using a fire extinguisher and water before emergency personnel arrived. The fire was largely confined to a single bedroom.
Due to suspicious circumstances surrounding the blaze, investigators from the Office of the State Fire Marshal were called to the scene. Their investigation determined that the fire had been intentionally set.
Jessica Allsop, 41, who had been temporarily staying at the residence, was taken into custody by Fire Marshal Investigators. She was transported to the Waldo County Jail, where she faces the following charges:
- Two counts of Criminal Attempt to Commit Murder
- Arson
- Violation of Conditions of Release
Allsop is being held without bail.
Two other occupants of the home were evaluated on scene by local ambulance personnel for smoke inhalation. Several dogs that were inside the residence at the time of the fire escaped without injury.
The investigation remains active.
