Wednesday, May 21, the Maine EMS (Emergency Medical Services) community will hold two events in Augusta as part of the 2025 National EMS Week observance. The day begins with a remembrance ceremony at the EMS Memorial and concludes with an awards ceremony in the Hall of Flags.

The nonprofit Friends of EMS for Maine will host their annual ceremony to honor those who have dedicated their lives to EMS, including one EMS professional who gave his life in the line of duty this past year. The ceremony will also recognize all those who comprise the EMS system in Maine: clinicians, telecommunicators, service leaders, nurses, physicians, and more. The program will feature remarks not only from past and present legislative leaders, and members of the EMS Blue Ribbon Commissions, but also future EMS providers: high school EMT students from Brewer and Bethel. The ceremony is a moment to reflect, honor, and celebrate the spirit of EMS in Maine. All are welcome.

Following the morning remembrance, the Maine EMS Board will host the 2025 Maine EMS Awards Ceremony. This event recognizes EMS clinicians, partners, and organizations across the state for their outstanding achievements and contributions to emergency medical services in Maine. These awards highlight the dedication, professionalism, and impact of EMS personnel and partners across Maine. Honorees include individuals and agencies who have demonstrated excellence in patient care, leadership, innovation, and service to their communities. Awards being presented include the EMS Merit Award, EMS Excellence Award, Lifetime Achievement Award, Community Partner Award, EMS Service of the Year, and the Governor’s Award.

This year’s celebration aligns with the 51st anniversary of National EMS Week and its theme: “EMS: We Care. For Everyone.” The ceremony offers an opportunity to express gratitude to those who serve their communities with unwavering dedication.
