Man on Sex Offender List Accused of Assaulting Woman on Kennebec River Rail Trail

Augusta Police say James Oliver, 57, described as a transient from Lincoln County, is accused of sexually assaulting a woman on the Kennebec River Rail Trail in Augusta.

Oliver is on the Maine sex offender registry. The attack was reported this morning, July 1, around 7:00am.

Witnesses stopped to help the woman as the suspect took off.
