A 61-year-old man was killed Saturday evening, April 18, when his motorcycle suffered a mechanical failure on Interstate 95 in Sidney, causing a two-motorcycle crash.

According to the Maine State Police, the incident occurred at approximately 5:36pm, near mile marker 120 on I-95 northbound.

Preliminary investigation shows that two Harley-Davidson motorcycles were traveling together. After passing another vehicle, both riders merged back into the right lane.

The operator of a 2006 Harley-Davidson, Adam Robinson, 61, of Sangerville, experienced a sudden mechanical defect that caused the brakes to seize. Robinson was ejected from his motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second rider, Jayson Lancaster, 28, of Carmel, was operating a 2008 Harley-Davidson in close proximity. Unable to avoid the crash, Lancaster was also ejected. He sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The Maine State Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the mechanical failure and the circumstances of the crash.
