The State Fire Marshal’s Office has arrested 51-year-old Mark Meierdirk of Orrington for arson.

On Monday, June 2, 2025, Investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office arrested 51-year-old Mark Meierdirk of Orrington for Arson. The investigation began on January 30, 2025, after a fire occurred at 978 Brewer Lake Road in Orrington. The home where Meierdirk was living and belonged to his family, was a total loss. Over the past several months, investigators have been working on the investigation, interviewing several witnesses, and reviewing financial records. Yesterday, the Fire Marshal’s Office conducted a search warrant at the property to document items Meierdirk removed from the residence prior to the fire and stored in an outbuilding on the premises. Mr. Meierdirk has been charged with two counts of arson, one for causing a fire to allow a person to collect insurance proceeds, and the other for damaging or destroying the property of another. Meierdirk was transported to the Penobscot County Jail. His bail was set at $10,000 cash.
