Bath Police say a 27-year-old Bath man was seriously injured early this morning, May 1, in Bath.
The police report he was crossing Commercial Street in the crosswalk near the intersection with King Street and the on-ramp to the Route 1 bridge, when he was hit by a GMC Sierra driven by a 23-year-old Wiscasset man.
Bath Police Chief Andrew Booth said:
Even with a heavy amount of vehicular and pedestrian traffic around BIW during commuting times multiple times a day, there are very few vehicle vs. pedestrian crashes that occur. The last serious vehicle vs. pedestrian crash occurred in 2016, also involving BIW workers during the morning commute. In that crash, like this morning’s crash, visibility issues appear to have played a significant role. This points out the need for both drivers and pedestrians to be extra vigilant at crosswalks when visibility issues are present.
This case remains active and under investigation.
