A historic train station in Unity has a new purpose, thanks to the opening of Rooted & Refined.
The new shop, which held a soft opening last week, features products from more than a dozen local vendors, including handmade jewelry, upcycled clothing, photography, maple syrup and baked goods.
Owner Catherine Berto also sells her own freshly milled flour, jams and baked goods from the former Belfast & Moosehead Lake Railroad station on Depot Street.
Beyond shopping, Berto hopes the space becomes a community gathering spot. Plans include workshops on food preservation, gardening, painting and other traditional skills, along with family-friendly activities to keep children entertained while parents browse.
Berto said she’s also looking to welcome additional local artisans and vendors to the growing marketplace.
The train station is located across from Mammie’s Country Kitchen on Depot Street.
According to a statement from the shop on Facebook:
This is the beginning of an exciting journey. While we’re still putting the finishing touches on a few things and will continue adding new vendors and products in the coming weeks, our doors are officially open and we’re ready to welcome you.
