If you own a Power Quick Pot electric pressure cooker, it’s time to check the model number. Federal safety officials are warning consumers to stop using certain models immediately because the lids can open while the cooker is still under pressure, sending hot food and liquids flying, claims a report at WMUR-TV.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued the warning Oct. 15 for approximately 393,000 six-quart pressure cookers with model number Y6D-36.
Officials have received 24 reports of the cookers unexpectedly releasing their contents, resulting in serious burn injuries.
The agency says Tristar Products Inc., the Florida-based importer, has refused to recall the cookers or offer a remedy to affected customers.
The cookers were sold online through Walmart, Amazon and eBay, along with other retailers nationwide, between July 2018 and November 2023. Prices ranged from about $44 to $160.
If you have one of these cookers, the CPSC says to stop using it right away.
