Three people suffered serious injuries Saturday evening when a wrong-way driver crashed head-on with another vehicle on I-295 in Portland, according to a report at Fox Bangor.
Maine State Police said the crash happened shortly after 7 p.m. Investigators determined that 88-year-old Ronald Ferguson of Nelson, New Hampshire, had accidentally entered the southbound lanes while driving his Subaru Outback in the wrong direction.
Police said Ferguson’s Subaru soon collided head-on with another vehicle.
Ferguson, his female passenger and the driver of the other vehicle were all taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland. Their injuries were considered serious but were not believed to be life-threatening.
