On New Year’s Day a residential house fire was reported at 110 North Stagecoach Road in the Town of Atkinson. The structure, an 1800s farmhouse with an attached barn, was fully engulfed in flames when emergency responders arrived.
The Fire Marshal’s Office was called to conduct an origin and cause investigation. Due to the extent of the damage, the fire has been classified as undetermined, with multiple accidental electrical causes not ruled out.
Three local teenage boys are being hailed as heroes for discovering the fire and helping the homeowners escape.
State Fire Marshal Shawn Esler remarked, “Had they not been in the right place at the right time, this could have been a much more tragic fire event.”
The Fire Marshal’s Office continues to gather information regarding the fire.
